I received an email from Kickstarter this morning that today is the one-year anniversary of the funding of the Bearing Gifts Kickstarter campaign. Wow!
I’m amazed that’s been a year… in some ways it feels like just a few months, and in others like many years have passed. I’m sure some of that has to do with all the strangeness of our current times, from COVID-19 to #BLM uprisings, and all the changes (good and bad) in our lives because of those happenings.
What the reminder also has me thinking about is this truth: the Kickstarter was a huge part of my life and Polina’s life one year ago. And yet, one year later, while it’s still significant (and I’m super proud of what we accomplished, and that Bearing Gifts is in the world because of our hustle and the generosity of our backers), it feels less huge and all-encompassing now in the rearview mirror, particularly in the midst of everything that’s gone on these last 12 months.
Interesting how time and distance and other life events grant perspective on things that were so important in the moment…
And that said, I still love that we did it, that we all put Bearing Gifts is out in the world, and that hopefully it’ll continue to bless readers for years to come.
